Jamie paced outside Emma’s office, alternating between wringing her hands and wiping them on her jeans.  She was no stranger to The White Knights, but she’d never come to the office before, and never as a client.  As a silent partner, she had access to any and all information on the Dommes that worked there.  She knew which ones were soft and which were strict.  She knew who Emma was too.  In fact, she’d done most of the hiring herself, albeit from behind a two-way mirror and with a voice changer to disguise her voice.  This was different though.  This time it was personal.  She needed this, more than she ever thought possible, and soon, or she was going to go completely bat-shit crazy, and not in a good way.

She reached out with a tentative hand and slowly twisted the door handle.  She could smell Emma’s curiosity.  Coyote shifters were like that sometimes.  This was the third time she’d made an appointment but the first time she’d actually made an attempt to go through with it.  She’d always chickened out before, which was strange considering her liger attributes.  Jamie didn’t bow to anyone, human or shifter; it didn’t matter.  She was a White.  She gave the orders, and others obeyed.  This would be the first time on the other side.

When she pushed open the door, Emma looked up and smiled.  “Come on in, sweetie.  You’re Jamie I presume?”

Jamie nodded silently as she shut the door behind her.  She shifted nervously from one foot to another as Emma withdrew a folder from a stack on her desk.  She wasn’t sure if she should sit down or what exactly.  While it was true she’d hired Emma as the office manager and front-man for interviews, she didn’t dictate how things were done.

“Why don’t you come sit with me on the sofa?  I promise not to bite.”  Emma gestured to a comfy looking sofa set against the far wall.  “Mallory vouched for you, so you don’t need to produce any references.  She also told me to take very good care of you.”

Jamie blushed, ducking her head and sighing as she took a seat at one end of the sofa.  “She really shouldn’t have done that.  I told her it wasn’t necessary.”

Emma cocked her head enquiringly as she studied Jamie silently.  “I’m guessing you’ve never done this before?”

Jamie shook her head.  “How – how could you tell?”

Emma set down her legal pad and opened her arms.  Jamie shuddered as she flew into them, hands fisting in the older woman’s blouse as she buried her face in Emma’s neck.  She trembled as Emma’s arms cocooned her in warmth and a security she hadn’t realized was missing.  Tears fell and soaked the older woman’s blouse as pent-up emotions poured forth.  Jamie tried to get herself under control, but all she could do was cry more as Emma rocked her back and forth, one hand patting her bottom softly and gently.

“It’s going to be alright, sweetie.”  Emma murmured softly.  “I know this feels scary, but it’s completely normal.  There is nothing wrong with your feelings and needs, and no one will judge you here.  I promise.”

Jamie hiccupped once, sniffling as she wiped her nose on a tissue pulled from her pocket.  “I don’t know why I’m so emotional.  It’s just – I’ve never wanted something so much before, and now that it’s within my reach, I don’t know how to feel.”

Emma tucked Jamie’s head beneath her chin then patted her back gently.  “Take all the time you need, sweetie.  We’ll talk whenever you’re ready.”

Jamie sighed and pulled herself together.  “I’m ready now.  The sooner we get through this, the sooner I can stop bothering you and get out of your hair.”

Emma chuckled as she gave Jamie a hug.  “Oh sweetie, I promise you’re not bothering me.  This is a big decision, and there’s no reason to rush things.”

Jamie sighed in relief as she reclined against the back of the sofa.  “So, where do we start?  What do you need to know?”

Emma smiled as she patted Jamie on the knee.  “Why don’t we start with you telling me a little bit about what you’re looking for, in general.  Why did you come here?”

Jamie blushed, averting her eyes.  “Well, I’ve done a little research, and I think what I’m looking for is called a Mommy Domme, someone who’s a caregiver.”

Emma smiled and made a note on her pad.  “Can you tell me why you think that’s what you’re looking for?”

Jamie shrugged.  “I’ve been on my own for quite some time now, and it gets awful lonely, you know?  I never had anyone to look after me before.  Never had anyone who cared what happened to me.  And now – I got stuff going on, and it’s a lot to handle on my own.”

Emma cocked her head thoughtfully.  “Can I ask you a question?  And I don’t want you to take it the wrong way, okay?”

Jamie nodded warily.  “You can ask, but I can’t promise you an answer you’ll like.”

Emma chuckled.  “Fair enough.”  Then she schooled her face into something more compassionate.  “Do you have the support of a pack?”

Jamie froze; her mouth and hands both going dry.  Her first instinct was to run, far and fast.  Her second was to fight; conquer or be conquered.  She flicked a surprised glance at Emma.  How had she known?  Of course, Mal knew she was a liger, but that shouldn’t have any bearing on this meeting.

“How – how did you know?”

Emma’s forehead scrunched.  “How do I know what?  That you’re a shifter?”  She smiled warmly.  “I um – I can smell your animal, even though you’re trying to mask it.  Knew you were a shifter the second you walked in the door.  Mal didn’t say anything if that’s what you’re worried about.”

Jamie fidgeted, her eyes flicking around the room, computing avenues of escape.  “So, um, you know what I am, right?”

Emma reclined casually as she regarded the tense woman in front of her.  “I know you’re a shifter, but that’s all.  I can’t determine what kind, not with the level of masking you’re employing.  That doesn’t change anything if that’s what you’re wondering.  We have several shifter Dommes in our employ.”  She leaned forward with a conspiratorial grin.  “In fact, would it surprise you to learn that I’m a coyote shifter?”

Jamie shook her head.  “No.  And I already knew that.  Mal told me.”  She flicked a glance upward, trying to gauge Emma’s response.  “I don’t have anything against other shifters.  It’s usually the other way around, actually.”

Emma leaned back again.  “I take it you don’t have pack support then.  Is this by choice or were you forced into it?”

Jamie squirmed uncomfortably in her seat.  “I’ve always been a loner, but there’s also some extenuating circumstances that make certain packs wary of offering support.”  She sighed heavily, her shoulders slumping as if expecting to be tossed out, despite Mal’s validation.  “If you must know, I’m a liger shifter.  On top of that, I’m a White.”

“Ahh.”  Emma nodded in understanding then leaned over to pat Jamie gently on the knee.  “Rest assured, sweetie, Mal’s validation aside, we do not discriminate based on breed.  No one here will look down on you because you’re a White.”  She smirked as she consulted a list of names.  “In fact, I’m thinking your presence here will only enhance certain reputations.”

Jamie frowned as she stared down at her hands.  “Do we have to tell them?  I mean, it’s not like there’s going to be a huge call for liger shifters.  I haven’t actually had to use my animal form in a very, long time.”

Emma shrugged.  “It’s your call, but most Dommes don’t like it when their subs withhold information.”

Jamie licked her lips.  “I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.  Right now, I don’t want anyone else to know.”

Emma nodded.  “Okay.  I can do that.”  She looked up from her pad.  “Let’s talk some more.  What do you want to get out of this?  Do you want a weekend liaison or something more long-term.”

Jamie picked invisible lint off her jeans.  “I, uh – I’m kind of hoping for something long-term.  I have my own apartment, but I’m not permanently attached to it.  And I can support myself, if that’s an issue.  I’m not looking for a sugar momma.”

“So, you want someone to take care of you, but not necessarily provide for you.”

Jamie nodded.  “I guess.  I mean, I don’t want to have to worry about monthly bills, grocery shopping, cooking, stuff like that.  I have my own money though, and some outside expenses to take care of.  That wouldn’t change.  I just want someone to look after me.  You know, putting me to bed at night, giving me baths, making me eat three healthy meals a day, but I can contribute to the financial part.”

Emma nodded as she made some more notes.  “What about discipline?  Do you have any preferences?  I know this is something that we’ll cover more in actual interviews, but I like to get a heads-up, in order to thin the potential list.”

Jamie blushed.  “Um, so for most stuff, I’m fine with timeouts, like corner time, going to bed early, no dessert, losing privileges, stuff like that.  I, uh – I’m also open to spanking for serious infractions.”

Emma reached over and took Jamie by the hand.  “Have you ever been spanked before, as an adult, I mean?”

Jamie’s ears turned a curious shade of crimson.  “Uh, yeah, once.  My roommate and I, we were, you know, just fooling around, and I got all up in her face about something.  She flipped me over her knee and smacked me on the butt.  I growled at her, and she backed off.  It only happened that once.”

“And how did you feel about it?”

Jamie shrugged, her knee bouncing nervously.  “At the time, I was hurt, and my butt hurt.  But later, once I’d thought it over, I kind of wished she’d done it more often.”

“And what do you think of the idea now?”

“I think it could be very beneficial, with the right person.  I, uh – I tend to have a hero complex, always rushing in without thinking things through.  Maybe someone with rules and consequences is exactly what I need.”

Emma leaned back and looked over the list of names she’d drawn up.  There was really only one true consideration.  One name that stood out above all the others.  One woman she’d trust to take care of Jamie properly.  One woman who always gave her all to the relationship and wouldn’t abuse Jamie’s trust.  She needed Regina.  Jamie needed Regina.

“I think I have the perfect candidate, if you have time for an interview now.”

“Now?”  Jamie squeaked, rubbing her hands on her jeans.

Emma brushed a lock of hair out of Jamie’s face.  “Why not?  I promise you, it’s not as bad as it seems.”  She pointed across the room to a two-way mirror.  “You’ll be behind the mirror while I ask questions.  There’s a tablet on the table in there, connected directly to mine, so you can write down any questions that might come up during the interview.”

“Will you see these questions?”

Jamie sounded apprehensive, so Emma patted the young woman gently on the knee.  “I will.  Is that a problem?”

Jamie shook her head.  “No, ma’am.  That’s fine.  That actually makes sense.”

Emma smiled warmly.  “Why don’t you go ahead and get comfortable in there, and I’ll call Regina in for the interview.”

Jamie peeked inside the room and let out a breath when she found it empty.  She wasn’t sure what she was worried about, but she really wanted this to go well.  There was a table and chair on the door side, and a small loveseat on the far side.  A tablet sat on the table, just as Emma had said.  Jamie picked up the tablet, and it immediately came on.  She sat down on the loveseat and waited.  Only a couple minutes passed before a short, dark-haired woman came sauntering into Emma’s office.  She tossed a quick glance at the two-way mirror, and Jamie shrunk in her seat, even though there was no way Regina could see her.

Regina wore black, skinny jeans that hugged her ass and a snug-fitting, white tank top that was visible underneath a grey silk blouse.  Her black combat boots contrasted sharply with her blouse but matched her jeans perfectly.  Jamie wiped clammy hands on her jeans and tried not to drool.  If this woman was going to be her Mama, her Mama was gorgeous.

“You said you might have something for me?”  Regina cut Emma a confident grin.

Jamie started, surprised to hear Regina’s voice coming through small speakers in the ceiling.  It made perfect sense when she thought about it.  This way she could hear the questions Emma asked as well as Regina’s answers.

“I might.”  Emma acknowledged.  “The client is a little skittish right now, so you need to be on your best behavior.”

Regina smirked as she collapsed into an empty chair.  “I’m always on my best behavior.”

Emma rolled her eyes then picked up her pad.  “So, how do you feel about being someone’s caregiver?”

Regina straightened, all mirth disappearing.  “Are you serious?  Don’t yank my chain with this, Emma.  You know how I feel about it.”

Emma shook her head.  “I’m not yanking your chain, Regina.  The client is looking for a Mommy-Domme.”

“For how long?”

Jamie could hear the longing in Regina’s voice, and it matched the temper of her own when her feelings became too much to hold in.  She scooted to the edge of the loveseat; tablet clutched to her chest.  The longer she stared at Regina, the more she felt a connection to the older woman, a connection that was becoming harder and harder to deny.

“I’m not entirely sure how long, but the client did indicate she was looking for something more than just weekend playdates.”

Regina nearly vibrated in her chair.  “Do you – do you think I could meet her?”

Emma shrugged.  “I’m hoping to get to that eventually, but like I said…”

Her voice trailed off as Jamie peeked around the door frame of the special room.  Regina turned in her seat, and her eyes widened.  As a coyote shifter, she could smell Jamie’s animal, so she knew the younger woman was a shifter as well.  The interesting thing though was, she didn’t seem to be trying to hide what she was.  Regina covered her mouth then bit down on her fist, her eyes filling with tears as Jamie’s animal shone through.

“I dreamed about you.”  Regina murmured softly.  “I saw you in animal form.  You carried me to safety.”

Jamie cocked her head, not sure what to make of Regina’s claim.  She didn’t dream that often, and when she did, she hardly ever remembered any details.  She certainly didn’t remember dreaming of Regina.

“I wish I could say the same.”

Regina held out an arm, and Jamie couldn’t hold back.  Launching herself across the room, she threw herself into the older woman’s embrace, hands fisting in the older woman’s shirt as she buried her face in her neck.

“Mama?”

Regina held Jamie tightly.  “I’m here, little one.”

Jamie trembled as Regina lifted her up in her arms and carried her over to the sofa.  “I thought I’d never find you.”

Her voice was high and sweet, and Regina could tell Jamie was slipping fast.  She rocked the younger woman gently, one hand sliding down her back to pat Jamie’s bottom softly.  Jamie snuggled tighter into Regina’s embrace.  Regina smiled her thanks at Emma as the other woman began preparing the paperwork that was necessary for legal considerations.  There was a soft knock at the door, and then Mal poked her head in, a grin stretching across her face at the sight of Jamie cuddled to Regina’s chest.

“I had my fingers crossed the two of you would find each other.”

Regina frowned.  “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Mal chuckled lightly.  “Only that Jamie has needed you in her life for a very long time.  She’s a stubborn girl though.  Kept pushing away the feelings, trying to pretend she could handle it on her own, spiraling into depression when the feelings got to be too much.”

Regina scowled.  “Why didn’t you mention this before now?”

Mal rolled her eyes as she slouched into Regina’s empty chair.  “Because Jamie doesn’t respond well when pushed.  She didn’t want to believe she needed someone to look after her.  When I did bring it up, she almost took off my head.”

“She’d better not try that with me.”  Regina growled.  “I’ll take her over my knee and spank her naughty little bottom.”

Jamie squirmed at Regina’s words.  “I sowwy, Mama.”

Regina looked down as Jamie looked up with quivering lower lip.  “What are you sorry for, little one?”

“I not find you before now.”  Jamie sniffled.  “I not listen to Mal.  No spanks?”

Jamie dropped her hands to cover her backside, not sure if Regina meant to spank her before they had the paperwork signed.  Mal chuckled lightly, but Jamie heard it.  Turning slightly in Regina’s lap, she stuck her tongue out at Mal.  Jamie felt her hands being moved then a firm swat landed in the center of her backside.  She yelped as she turned back to Regina.

“Ouch!  Mama?”

“That wasn’t very nice, little one.  Go tell Mal you’re sorry.”

Jamie folded her arms over her chest with a pout.  “Don’t want to.  Mal laugh at me.  Is not funny.”

Regina arched an eyebrow, and Jamie wilted, slinking off her Mama’s lap to stand next to Mal.  “I sorry, Mal.  I shouldn’t stick my tongue out at you, even if you was mean.”

“Jamie LeAnne!”  Regina growled.  “Get your naughty little butt over here.”

Jamie slowly slunk across the room; her figurative tail tucked between her legs.  She yelped as Regina tugged her down over her lap.  She kicked and wriggled only to get the back of her thigh swatted.

“I will not tolerate disrespect, little one.  You can be certain that will earn you a spanking every single time.”

“Mama, nooooo, please.  I sorry.”

Jamie whimpered and held on tightly to Regina’s ankle as the older woman’s slim hand came crashing down on her backside.  Six firm, crisp spanks landed on alternating cheeks, and Jamie let the tears fall.  She couldn’t complain too much since this was exactly what she’d been looking for; but in the moment, it hurt, and she didn’t want any more spanks.

“Mama, please.  I sorry.  I sorry.”

Regina rested a hand on Jamie’s throbbing backside, surprised at how quickly she’d slid into maternal mode.  She worried briefly about the legal logistics, but with Emma smirking at her and Mal winking at her, she didn’t think she had too much to worry about.  She pulled Jamie up into her lap, surprised and nearly bowled over as the younger woman clung to her neck, warm, salty tears soaking into her blouse.

“Spanking’s over, baby.”  She murmured.  “All is forgiven.”

Jamie shuddered as a profound feeling of rightness washed over her.  Her cries eased into sniffling and hiccups as she nuzzled Regina’s neck.  Emma brought over the paperwork to sign, and Jamie smiled wanly.  Quickly signing on the marked lines, Jamie threw her arms around Emma’s neck.

“Thank you, Miss Emma, for finding Regina for me.  Thank you for believing in me.”

Mal frowned in mock-affront.  “Hey, what am I, chopped liver?”

Jamie smirked as she bolted across the room to throw her arms around Mal’s neck.  “Thank you, Mal, for not giving up on me.”  She hugged Mal’s neck tightly.  “Thank you for pushing me, even when I didn’t like it.”

Mal slowly wrapped her arms around Jamie and hugged her back.  “You’re very welcome, sweetie.  You know I only have your best interests at heart, right?”

Jamie blushed then chuckled as she pressed a kiss to Mal’s cheek.  “Yes, ma’am.  I know, and I love you too.”

Mal blushed this time then turned Jamie back toward Regina and sent her on her way with a light love-tap.  “Go on, little one.  Your Mama’s waiting.”

Jamie flicked a glance at Regina then flew across the room to launch herself into Regina’s lap.  “Does this mean you’re my Mama now?  Am I going to move in with you?  Does I get my own room?  Can I park my car at your house?”

Regina placed a finger on Jamie’s lips.  “All in good time, little one.  For now, would you like to spend the night at my place?”

Jamie’s eyes widened.  “For reals?  You mean it?  Will you tuck me in tonight?”

Regina smiled warmly.  “I will indeed.  Come.  We’ll take my car and come back later for yours.”

Emma and Mal watched fondly as Regina led Jamie outside, the younger woman still asking questions excitedly, not once letting go of Regina’s hand.  Emma poured her and Mal a drink to celebrate.

“How long do you think before Regina realizes that they’re mates?”

Mal shrugged.  “Regina’s smart.  I’m sure she’ll figure it out before long.  I just hope she isn’t mad at us for putting the two of them together.”

“And Jamie?”

Mal sighed.  “Jamie is a little harder to read.  We’ve been friends for some time, but she’s always been a loner.  Her status made her an outcast to some, but I believe with all my heart, she’s going to be our salvation.”

Emma tossed back her drink.  “I hope you’re right, because if this doesn’t work…”

Mal grimaced as she drained her whiskey.  “I know.  Believe me, I know.”  She gave Emma a hard look.  “We have no other choice, Emma.  It has to work, or we’re all done for.”
